Samyang Roundsquare Debuts Supplement Brand Spindle with Akkermansia Product Launch

Samyang Roundsquare, a Korea-based global food and health company, has launched Spindle, a metabolic health brand, with the debut product Spindle Muscle+.

The formula features Akkermansia MYO, a clinically studied strain shown to support muscle health through changes in the gut.

Emerging research has shown that the gut is a driver of muscle health by regulating protein synthesis, systemic inflammation, and the process of building and preserving muscle.

“Maintaining muscle strength over time depends on more than protein and staying active alone,” said Faissal Tahiri, head of healthcare at Samyang America. “With Spindle, we are bringing forward a science-led approach that looks at the biological systems influencing muscle function, including the growing scientific understanding of the gut-muscle connection.”

Akkermansia MYO is a postbiotic Akkermansia muciniphila strain, known for its role in gut barrier integrity and metabolic outcomes. The strain has undergone multiple studies, including a human clinical trial in adults over the age of 60.

According to the company, 12 weeks of Akkermansia MYO supplementation supported significant improvements over placebo in measures of hamstring strength, muscle power, grip strength, prealbumin levels (a biomarker for muscle maintenance and repair), and decreased myostatin levels (a biomarker that limits muscle growth).

Spindle Muscle+ is gluten-free, non-GMO, and free from common allergens, artificial sweeteners, color additives, and preservatives. It is produced in a GMP-certified facility.  Akkermansia MYO is an FDA-reviewed New Dietary Ingredient.
